3 Informative Essay

The turn of this century is in technology. Many people have the latest gadgets to this day. The two best sellers are the internet and the cellular phone. AS far as trading information goes, those two would be recommended.
The internet can be, and is used for many things. The main reason why I use it is to get information. I would read daily news on the computer rather than read the newspaper. I normally tend to visit Cnn.com, Abc.com, and Philadelphia Daily News Online.com. They always have news on what is happening in all parts of the world. When using them, I look at different headlines such as: City and Local news, Yo! Features, and National News. I use Philadelphia Daily News because it is close to my hometown. I live in the suburbs of Abington, which is about twenty minutes away from the city.
A main source that I use to find news would be America Online (AOL). When I sign into my account with AOL, a news media screen immediately pops up. I normally surf through the ads to see if there is anything that catches my interest. Sometimes, I find articles about different celebrities.
I do use the internet to find the latest information on stars. I normally use BET.com, E-Online, and MediaTakeOut.com. These websites give me plenty of the latest gossip on the celebrities. The website in which I visit the most is Media Take Out. When I log onto the main webpage I usually click on archives and browse through for topics. I pick the archive over the main homepage is because the archive actually shows pictures of the stories. The topics that I do find range from shocking to funny and even to disturbing.
Sometimes I use the internet for traveling. First I will check the weather by logging onto Weather.com and entering the area code of which ever place I am trying to go. If I am not sure how to get there, I will use Map Quest. MapQuest.com is very easy to use. I just log in where I am located and the place that I want to go. It will give me different options and sometimes it goes directly to the place. The directions are then listed and I either write them down or print them out.
A bad habit that the internet helps me with is shopping. I surf the internet for things that I know I should not be buying. I recently set up an account with Amazon using Amazon.com and I have already bought a non-fiction book and a digital camera. I also look through store’s websites such as: Aeropostle, Footlocker, Bare Feet Shoes, and American Eagle. On average, I at least shop online twice a week.
A major need for the internet is for communication. Other than the telephone, I use the internet to keep in contact with my friends and family who are in different states. I use America Online when I am talking to my family. They are mainly the only people who have my AOL account screen name. There are devices where you can speak into the microphone and records a video where you can see the person you are talking to. It is a really great help when I am talking to my family from down south. A monthly internet bill is better than a costly long distance telephone bill. Two internet sites recently took over the whole internet just a couple of years ago. I do admit that I use both. The first is Myspace. Myspace started off as a place where you could make an account, add pictures and add friends just to keep in touch. Now, it has broadened all of its horizons. Even celebrity stars have made their own accounts, started adding their friends and fans, added music and their pictures. I am able to upload videos, watch other people’s videos, search for music, communicate with people, and make up groups, forums, plans events and even blog. Blogging is when you post your feelings. It is pretty much having a conversation with someone over the internet but it is for everyone to see. The second most used cite is Facebook. Before my graduating year, in order to have a Facebook account you had to be enrolled in college. You would have to enter your school and your email address for your school. It stopped at the end of 2006 so I was finally able to make and account. I use it to keep in touch with my friends from all over. Facebook helps you reunite with people that you might have once known but somehow lost contact. While on the site I upload lots of photos that I take with friends at different events. I communicate constantly with my friends. If I am attending most of the events that go on at school, I will go to that event’s page and add myself to the attending list. Facebook recently added a feature where you can chat with people other than writing notes back and forth because it is quicker.
When I am bored I use the internet to play games. I normally go to Addicting Games.com, which holds thousands of games. I also use shockwave.com, which holds a many number of games. I normally play a game called Inklink. The object of the game is when you see the word that you have in the small corner of your box you have to draw it. You want to get the other players to guess what you are drawing. It is timed and you get points for every second you did not waste. I use Game Rival.com, but I only log onto that to play card and puzzle games. I always play speed when I visit this website.
I have found a website a couple of years ago where people write stories and post them online for all to see. I was searching Msn.com one day and came across the group. I joined it and read a lot of stories that seemed appealing to me that young writers have written. It was pretty neat to me because I was able to view other creativity of young minds. I felt as if I was in my own element where nothing mattered but writers. I did post my own stories on the site then, but now I just continue to read other’s stories.
There is so much to do with the internet. It can be used to for anything that you would need. It is more convenient to access and it is not that hard to use. If you needed extra help you could just type in what you need help with and the internet would indeed help.
